Ye Shall Know The Truth PDF Print
Written by Glenn Gray

How can one claim to believe in Jesus and deny that one can know truth? We are living in a “feel good” age where emotions are more important than truth. To many people, truth is whatever they think it to be, especially when it comes to religion. There is a great contrast between the Sermon on the Mount, as preached by Jesus, to the empty sermons preached from many pulpits today; sermons that stir emotions, rather than teach truth.

To learn divine truth one must go to the proper source. Jesus says He is truth (John 14:6); He says that God’s word is truth (John 17:17). Paul and James refer to the gospel as truth (Ephesians 1:13; James 1:18). Paul also said that he spoke the truth (Galatians 4:16). Most people, no doubt, will say they want the truth, but in reality when truth is preached they are offended. Let us consider a few examples.

How many people today are interested in knowing the truth about the church, one body that was established by Jesus that is spoken of in the New Testament? (Matthew16:18; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:16; 3:10-21; 4:4; 5:23-27). Is it more politically correct to believe that “one church is as good as another” than to believe in the one true church revealed in the Bible?

How many people today are truly interested in knowing the part that water plays in the New Birth? (John3:5). The inspired preacher, Peter, explains that it is baptism (Acts 2:38). The apostle Paul teaches the same (Romans 6:3-5). The Ephesians who were baptized, upon learning the truth about baptism (Acts 19:1-5), had received a “washing of water by the word” (Ephesians 5:25-26). The Corinthians who were baptized (Acts 18:8) were also washed (1Corinthinians 6:11). Ananias told Saul of Tarsus that at baptism his sins would be washed away (Acts22:16). Simon Peter also explains that water baptism “saves us.” (1 Peter 3:21). Of course, it is the blood of Christ that washes our sins away and saves, but it takes place at baptism (Mark 16:16). Now, how many people really want to know this truth?

Even the clearly spoken truth that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” is offensive to many. How about you? Do you want the truth? On every subject? I pray that you do!
