Procrastination is a common practice for too many. In the Bible story of Lot in Sodom we learn that he was warned to flee the area because God's wrath was coming upon the wicked city. He was told to flee the city "lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city." (Gen.19:15) The very next verse says, "And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters...And they brought him forth, and set him without the city."
In the case of Lot there was no time to linger. Another Bible story of a man who chose to linger is found in the account of Paul preaching to King Agrippa. "King Agrippa said to Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian." (Acts 26:28). In other words, the King was saying to Paul, Please, not now, maybe later.
Another Bible example of one choosing to put off what he needed to do is Governor Felix as recorded in Acts 24:25 the Governor said to Paul, "Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee." Please, not now, maybe later, seems to have been Felix's attitude.
Let me make a current application to this. As we search for a full-time preacher, now is not the time for us to cut back on our giving. We have in our budget money to support a full-time preacher. My appeal to the West Georgia congregation regarding giving is: Please do not cut back on giving; Please not now!
