There are signs in yards all around our area as well as in many other towns in America reading "Pray America." I do not know which religious group is promoting these signs. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is given as a Bible reference for these signs. Due to the problems facing our nation, spiritually; morally; politically; economically and socially it is certainly appropriate to pray.
However, the sign is not detailed enough. We need to be reminded specifically for what to pray. Also, the sign would be more appropriate if it read, "Pray Americans." America can't pray, only citizens of America can pray. Also, not all American citizens can pray to be heard, only those in a praying relationship with God. Sin separates man from God and his, or her, prayers will not be heard (Isa.59:2). No doubt many Americans fall into this category.
To be in a praying relationship with God one must first be a worshiper of God and a doer of His will (John 9:31). The Bible further teaches that the face of the Lord is against those that do evil (1 Pet. 3:12). This surely limits the number of Americans that can pray to God and be heard.
All of the above listed ills are specific things for which praying Americans should pray about. Spiritually speaking, many Americans seek to be entertained rather than to worship God in spirit and in truth. Morally speaking, anything goes with many in our nation. The morals of our country have gone down a drain, so to speak. How many in our country do you suppose are true doers of God's will? Jesus spoke of the narrow way and the few that find it (Matt. 7:13-14).
Maybe the sign should read: "The few of you Americans who are in a praying relationship with God, PRAY!" "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."(James 5:16)
